Attorney General Jim Petro today filed suit against three collision repair companies for violating Ohio’s Do-Not-Call Law and the Consumer Sales Practices Act (CSPA). Complaints received by Petro’s office and the Federal Trade Commission allege that AA Precise Collision, Inc, Buckeye Collision and Glass, Inc., and Mid-Ohio Collision LLC were calling Central Ohioans who had placed their numbers on the National Do-Not-Call Registry. The businesses contacted persons who had been in automobile accidents for the purpose of selling them collision repair services. All three companies are located in the Columbus area. “These companies seem to be conducting business with a total disregard of the Ohio Do-Not Call law,” said Petro. “The law has been in place for two years and companies need to remember to access the registry before telemarketing in Ohio.” The lawsuits ask the court to prohibit these three companies from further violating the Ohio Do-Not-Call law and the CSPA, and order them to pay $500 to each person that received a call who was on the Registry. The lawsuit also asks each company to pay a $25,000 civil penalty per violation of the CSPA. Anyone who feels they have received a telephone call in violation of the Ohio Do-Not-Call law can file a complaint with the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Section online at www.ag.state.oh.us or by calling 1-800-282-0515 to request a complaint form.
