Wisconsin's No Call List has more numbers on it than ever before due to the new law allowing residents to sign up cell phone numbers in addition to land lines.
The January 2009 list has more than 1.6 million numbers registered, according to a press release from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. Last year's count at this time was 1,098,055. More than 421,860 mobile lines are now on the list, with 44,000 cell numbers added to the list in one day.
Those who sign up by Feb. 28 will get on the quarterly list sent to telemarketers in April.
Residents can add a number anytime, but when deadlines approach, nearly 100,000 registrations a day may slow things down.
To sign up: visit the Wisconsin No Call List Web site at NoCall.Wisconsin.gov or calling 1-866-9NO-CALL (1-866-966-2255) toll-free in Wisconsin.
